Our Border Patrol Agents:

• Patrol international land border and coastal waters

• Detect and prevent the illegal entry and smuggling of aliens into the United States

• Detect and prevent terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering into the United States

• Prevent the illegal trafficking of people, narcotics and contraband into the United States.

The key requirements to become a Border Patrol Agent are: 

>   Be between the ages of 18 and 39 (waiver for qualified veterans)

>   Be a U.S. citizen and a resident for the past three years

>   Have a valid state driver’s license

>   Pass a thorough background investigation, polygraph test, medical examination, fitness test and drug test
