Temporary (RPS) Employment for:
Student Services Specialist (3 positions)
LOCATION: Maricopa Skill Center | 1245 E. Buckeye Road | Phoenix, AZ 85034
DEPARTMENT: Enrollment Services
HOURS: 25 hours per week, schedule may be flexible, including evenings and weekends
PAY RATE: $16.13 per hour, no benefits
DURATION: Varies based on staffing needs of the department. Position is temporary lasting up to June 30, 2014. Job may be terminated prior to June 30, 2014 or extended beyond based on organizational need and budget capacity.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The MSC ONE STOP/Enrollment Services Department is looking to fill three (3) temporary Student Service Specialist positions at our Main location. This position will perform various Enrollment Services functions, including but not limited to:
Providing one-stop student service access to Skill Center enrollment services; in the areas of admissions, registration, financial aid programs, program selection, and referrals to other related services
Assist new and continuing students with all student services processes, providing an overview and guidance for program selection, career choices, admissions, registration, business office, and financial aid; advise students on their hours of attendance and how this affects their financial aid; ensure students have the proper documents completed with Financial Aid, Business Office, and Admissions and Records; prepare reports and statistical analyses as requested
Advise students regarding certificate and graduation requirements, certificate programs, attendance and financial aid probation/suspension statuses, special programs and financial aid eligibility; meet and correspond with students to facilitate the processes through student services
Assist students with program selection; coordinate with Recruitment Team to ensure a smooth transition from applicant to student; meet and correspond with students to address any enrollment concerns or issues
May assist students with the financial aid process; may advise student of financial aid options such as federal student aid, application requirements and deadline, federal and state grants, loans, as well as other funding options such as scholarships, payment plans and Third Party
Monitor students’ attendance and progress throughout their programs using the appropriate systems and software; interact with instructional areas to support students and create maximum opportunities for success; assist with the maintenance of student files, program advisement, financial aid, and enrollment actions
Act as resource for students for MCCCD Policies and Procedures, ensuring students have an understanding of their rights and responsibilities
As required: Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience using computers and various operational software and Internet functionality
Experience utilizing customer service strategies and functions
Experience with student services procedures
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
Two (2) or more years customer and/or student service experience, preferably in a higher education setting
Experience providing customer service for diverse populations
Experience handling escalated customer concerns
Experience using a student information system to process and analyze student records
Experience using standard office equipment and Microsoft Office Suite
Experience communicating effectively
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Position requires working a set 5 hour per day schedule between 8am-5pm. May require travel to other MCCCD campuses. Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License is required; must meet district minimum standards in regards to driving: http://www.maricopa.edu/legal/rmi/vehicle.htm#requirements.
