Conducts field audits on income tax returns in Arizona. Examines books and worksheets required in verifying allocation of income and expenses. Requires in-state and out of state travel. Prepares work papers and formal audit statements. Explains audit assessments to taxpayers, tax managers, comptrollers, CPA’s and attorneys for purpose of substantiation of reporting and conformance with Arizona state laws. Attends protest hearing of own audits. Train new auditors. Attend mandated training. Approximately, two years or 12 semester of accounting courses and or training in preparing tax returns, or accounting work at a level of full charge bookkeeper.

Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting from an accredited college or university; or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum of 24 semester hours in accounting or experience as a professional accountant.
