Position: Student Services Specialist
Department/Location: Early Outreach Programs/Southern & Dobson
Work Days/Hours: Varying shifts within the regular operating hours of Monday- Friday, 8:00am-7:00pm during regular hours, Saturday: 7:30 – 4:00 pm (Required and non-negotiable). Summer hours begin 5/12/14: Monday – Thursday 8:00am-7:00 pm (closed Fridays). Minimum of 25 hours per week, up to 40 hours per week as needed during peak periods
End Date: 6/30/2014
Hourly Rate: $12.30

Job Summary:
The Student Service Specialist will work within the Mesa Community College (MCC) Early Outreach Programs; Hoop of Learning (HOL) and Achieving a College Education (ACE) department: Emphasis will be implementing the daily operations of the MCC Hoop of Learning (HOL) program. Job functions include but are not limited in the areas of academic advising, admissions, registration, placement testing, scholarship application, and college services and resources. Develops and maintains working relationships with students, parents, public schools, community agencies and college personnel. Recruits pre-college students and develops and implements retention activities. Creates and maintains records. Work with diverse and at-risk pre-college student populations. Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, innovation, and integrity; and collaborates across the college to insure service excellence, student success, and public stewardship.
Qualifications:
Experience / Evidence working with diverse and at-risk pre-college students and/or programs in or with public high school or higher education institutions
Experience / Evidence working with American Indian populations and or students from diverse backgrounds and cultures
Experience / Evidence with retention programs and/or activities
Experience / Evidence of work experience with student services processes, such as admissions, registration, placement testing, and academic advising
Experience / Evidence working collaboratively with a variety of constituencies ranging from community members/organizations, public schools and college students, Tribal entities, faculty, staff, and parents
Experience / Evidence using computer applications to develop or update reports, tracking systems, presentations and applying web and online resources and tools, such as Microsoft Office Suite, databases, and online search applications such as Google
Associate's degree required and/or equivalent experience , (Bachelor's degree preferred)
Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills
Special Working Conditions:
A flexible work schedule is necessary to accommodate the needs of the students; Saturday hours required; may be required to work evenings and at off-site locations; may be required to lift objects up to 50 lbs.; requires prolonged periods of sitting and viewing a computer screen. Extensive local travel will be required; possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License is required; must meet district minimum standards regarding driving: http://www.maricopa.edu/legal/rmi/vehicle.htm#requirements
